The State of Grace

Insights on This Week’s Reading with Rev. Deb Phelps

Text, Chapter 7, XI. The State of Grace

Paragraph 1

The Holy Spirit is there with us. He is our Guide and He is our Friend. Jesus tells us that it is easy to follow Him. It may not always seem easy to do so but if we take what Jesus says here and really apply it, we will find it easier. Do we want a peaceful life? Or, do we want to get wrapped up in our day-to-day problems? The ego thinks that there is always difficulties, from breaking a nail, to the bill in the mail, to the relationship that failed to the job that you wanted but didn’t get.

By ignoring the ego’s interpretation of life’s events and concentrating on Holy Spirit’s interpretation, we save a lot of time and wear and tear on our emotions. There is no difficulty. It is only our perception that there is one.

Paragraph 2

Grace is our natural state. Jesus says that when we are out of our natural state we do not function well. We should understand that idea all too well especially if we are prone to anxiety and worry. He says that everything that we do becomes a strain. Ever feel that way? Like it’s just so hard to get up in the morning?

However, we can have happy days. A Son of God is happy when he knows that he is with God. Wake up to that idea and it will certainly change your day.

Paragraph 3

Look at your life and answer those questions that Jesus raises with us. Do you feel protected and safe? Happy and loved? No fear? No feeling of sacrifice when you give to another either monetarily or otherwise? Do you feel thankful?

If we don’t, then we need to take Jesus’ advice here. We cannot make our happiness, our safety, and all through the auspices of the world.  It won’t work, ever. When you deny the blessing either to another person or yourself, then you will feel deprived. There’s no way around that, except by giving and giving freely. We stop ourselves because we believe that we lose when we give. However, we gain so much when we freely give. It is a feeling that is superb in every way.

You who could give the Love of God to everything you see and touch and remember, are literally denying Heaven to yourself.

Paragraph 4

We are here to teach and we have heard this before. We teach what we want to learn. We teach the Kingdom of God to ourselves and our brothers. What we believe about ourselves we teach and we find the witness thereof. There are no exceptions he says. Do you want to learn and hold that lesson in your heart? The lesson of LOVE? I know that you do want another way, or you would not be studying ACIM right now, would you?

Paragraph 5

All we really know is Truth. Everything else is just frivolous. All gaudy decorations that we have placed on the Son of God to disguise Him. Our Light is there, always there within our mind. We are radiant and lovely. We hide that loveliness from ourselves because of our belief in unworthiness. Is that where you really rather would be?

The Majesty of God is there, for you to recognize and appreciate and know.

God has given us our radiance, every one of us. He gave equally to the Sonship. We believe that there is more Sons that there are. There is only One Son. Collectively, we are It.

Recognize God in your brother and recognize God in yourself. Let go of all of the beliefs that you have had about yourself: You’re too fat, too short, not smart, getting old, you’re physically ill, no money, no career or education, you’re unlovable, you’ve wronged people, etc. Let all those ideas go right now! Let them all go and come into the Light and see your brilliance. You are worthy and lovable and capable of many great things. You are the Son of God. Accept it right now.

Paragraph 6

Here in the world we may say, “Oh yeah, all those thoughts are so nice, Rev. Deb, but I don’t believe them! How can I live this way?” You can. You just have forgotten your Truth. You have forgotten WHO you really are.

You do not know yourself, because you do not know your Creator.

We may talk a good game about knowing God but do we practice it consistently? Do we take time to be with Him? I’m not suggesting having guilt on that one, not in the least. But do you take time to get to know Him? Do you do His Workbook Lessons? Do you practice Jesus’ concepts of forgiveness?

Forgive yourself right now and move forward. No digging up the past and all of your mistakes. Onward ho!

Jesus mentions our creations. What does he mean by “our creations”? Our creations are on the spirit level. They are not anything in form. Our creations are the love that is present in our mind, our collective mind. We are our Father’s creation, and like Him we do extend or create with Thoughts of Love. They are extended through to our brothers and to our Father simultaneously. When we release ourselves from the identity that we have with the ego and “know thyself” with God, then we will accept those creations, those Thoughts of Love.

Whenever you heal a brother by recognizing his worth, you are acknowledging his power to create and yours.

See your brother through the Eyes of Christ and not only will you see his worth but you will see your own. And that worth, is more precious than anything found here in this world.

Paragraph 7

Being is known by sharing. Because God shared His Being with you, you can know Him.

How else can we learn but by sharing His Love with everyone? Do not get into scarcity mentality here. Do not be choosy! You can love even the foulest people. You do not have to spend time with them, but you can still look at them from beyond the body and into the Heart of Who They Are in Truth. When we hold back love or anything, we are only holding back ourselves. Really take time to think about that thought. What are you holding back? Even in form. What do you hold back because you think you might lose if you gave it away? Do you think you will lose your power? Your mind? Your love? Your self-esteem? Your money? Take some time to reflect on this, journal if you like and share with us on the Forum.

Know, then, the Sons of God, and you will know all creation.

Miracle Flight 9 – Fireworks from Heaven and Guided Meditation

Greetings Miracle Flight Students!

Welcome to another episode of Miracle Flights! In this episode I explain how watching fireworks at night from an airplane relates to the Text reading, The Totality of the Kingdom (T-7.VII), in A Course in Miracles.

You are really going to enjoy reading this section because it is packed full of amazing content! But before you tackle the reading, take a few minutes to watch this wonderful YouTube video showing spectacular video footage of fireworks over Walt Disney World as seen from a small airplane. Here is the link: Watching Walt Disney World Fireworks From A Private Plane!

Fireworks are so awe inspiring and delightful to watch as magnificent streams of light suddenly burst from a great flash of light. As I reflected on these breath-taking sights and how they relate to our reading in the Course, I was reminded that we were all once united with God in the Kingdom of Heaven as a great light too. Then, one day, the great light seemed to burst into many streams of light into the darkness of space, time, and perception. It was in that moment that the Kingdom of Heaven appeared to lose it wholeness, it’s totality.

In this reading, Jesus explains that we are on a journey of denial – a denial of the light from which we were created. And now it is our job to work with the Holy Spirit to turn that denial around into denial of the illusion of separate bodies and lives. He also indicates that if we want to truly awaken to the awareness of our union with God in the totality of heaven, we must give up our perception of the illusion totally. We cannot hang onto part of the illusion and try to have a little bit of heaven too. It is an all or nothing scenario.

While I was working with Jesus to prepare me for this study, he gave me an inspiration for a wonderful, guided meditation to help us move a little closer to releasing ourselves back to the totality of the kingdom. An audio recording of the guided meditation is included at the end of this Miracle Flight episode, and you also can download or listen to an MP3 version of the meditation from our MiraclesOne website. You are cleared for takeoff!

Love,

Rev. Paul

Summary of This Week’s Study Groups – 6/17/18

Joining together with others in the study of A Course in Miracles can assist with more understanding of the material, learning from others’ personal miracle stories, and the encouragement to dive deeper into personal practice. We have three weekly ACIM Study Groups that meet via video and phone conferencing on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. On Sundays in Madison, Wisconsin, we have an in-person study group. Each group has a slightly different focus but all maintain practical application of A Course in Miracles in our lives. Our study group facilitators are Gayle Bartlett, Mari Dole, Ryan Westbrook-Vigue, Darike Vigue, Tracey Frick, Tom Wolff, Rev. Paul Phelps, and myself, Rev. Deb Phelps. My thank to all!

Below you will find the summaries from our groups this week.

To join in our Tuesday and Wednesday ACIM Study Groups via video or phone conferencing, see the information at this linkOur Monday morning study group has been discontinued.

Sunday ACIM Study Group in Madison

Opened with Lesson 131 – No one can fail who seeks to reach the truth.
Practical Application Topic: Security

Personal miracle stories and examples were shared in relation to the feeling of security, all the while knowing our only security is that of God.

We read Text, Chapter 28, Section VII. The Ark of Safety. If we built our house on straw, well then we cannot wonder why it gets swept away, right? Same with where we place our faith. Do we place our faith in the body and the illusion, or in God Himself?

This is a great, great reading, be sure to read it for yourself.

  • What is the sense in seeking to be safe in what was made for danger and for fear? 2 Why burden it with further locks and chains and heavy anchors, when its weakness lies, not in itself, but in the frailty of the little gap of nothingness whereon it stands? 3 What can be safe that rests upon a shadow? 4 Would you build your home upon what will collapse beneath a feather’s weight?
  • T-28.VII.7.    Your home is built upon your brother’s health, upon his happiness, his sinlessness, and everything his Father promised him. 2 No secret promise you have made instead has shaken the Foundation of his home. 3 The winds will blow upon it and the rain will beat against it, but with no effect. 4 The world will wash away and yet this house will stand forever, for its strength lies not within itself alone. 5 It is an ark of safety, resting on God’s promise that His Son is safe forever in Himself. 6 What gap can interpose itself between the safety of this shelter and its Source? 7 From here the body can be seen as what it is, and neither less nor more in worth than the extent to which it can be used to liberate God’s Son unto his home. 8 And with this holy purpose is it made a home of holiness a little while, because it shares your Father’s Will with you. p605

We closed with a silent meditation and announcements of what’s upcoming.

This week’s video teaching is “The Ark of Safety.”

Tuesday ACIM Study Group by Video/Phone Conferencing

Opening Meditation: Workbook Lesson 170 “There is no cruelty in God and none in me.”

During the Tuesday night ACIM drop-in study group we discussed our practical application of Lesson 170.

We spent time discussing our thoughts concerning our personal defenses both self and projected. We also discussed how the healing power of love works within our lives. The group discussed how “God is but love” and how it’s all-encompassing. There is no cruelty in God therefore there is only love in us and how we as individuals exemplify that in our day to day interaction with others and we touched on the split mind “Yet you attack outside yourself, and separate your mind from him who is to be attacked, with perfect faith the split you made is real” We spoke about how we can make the separation in our mind real which causes attack thoughts, but where it speaks upon faith it’s not “faith” spiritually it’s more of putting faith into the idea of the split mind concept instead of focusing on the truth we know within. We wrapped up the discussion in paragraph VIII on page 327 talking about making the choice that laying down the idol of a cruel God and picking up another puts one into a perpetual circle in which we don’t focus on our healing and love because we allow the fear within to hold us back.

The Tuesday Night ACIM Drop-in Study Group is a beautiful blend of longstanding and beginning students of the Course. This allows for a unique opportunity of sharing in which everyone is welcome and many points of practical application is shared.

Wednesday Study Group by Video/Phone Conferencing

Hi everyone,

OK, I will try to make sure that whatever I share is relevant to all of our lives whether you have dabbled in the Manual for Teachers or not.

This week’s reading was 24.  IS REINCARNATION SO?

Not sure what your beliefs are relative to reincarnation, but I can share mine ever so briefly.  I have practiced Yoga for decades and this area is an integral part of the branch of Yoga to which I have been committed for a very long time, one that is highly meditative where the actual kriya or set of postures is meant to prepare oneself for stillness.  Reincarnation doesn’t frighten me and many years ago, I talked to a “medium” or “seer”, that’s what she called herself, who accessed seeming lifetimes with my husband, Bill, and was able to explain why we might conflict.

That’s neither here nor there.  My experience doesn’t matter, but I find just sharing from my life can often help to dissipate any fear YOU may have in exploring your own beliefs and blocks to the awareness of love’s presence.

OK, the most salient points in our discussion yesterday were:

Jesus asks us if the concept of reincarnation is helpful, that is, if it is “used to strengthen the recognition of the eternal nature of life, it is helpful indeed.” (Paragraph one, sentence five.)

Essentially, he admonishes not to get lost in the sauce about it as salvation can be experienced/accessed NOW, ruminating about seeming past lives or trying to be good in this one to assure greater joy in a future one is a waste of time.  We focus on NOW and accessing the holy instant.

If you are not sure what that is, the holy instant, please take a look at the section, The Two Uses of Time, Chapter 15, page 301 in the blue book.

Jesus tells us that as a Teacher of God we don’t have to give up any of our beliefs nor are we to encourage anyone else to relinquish theirs.  He states, “His ego will be enough for him to cope with, and it is not the part of wisdom to add sectarian controversies to his burdens.”  (Paragraph three, sentence 5.)

Great example, one of our participants is a devoted Course practitioner who also attends church every week and sings in the choir.  She attends because she loves being with others in love, joy and peace, she spreads her light and receives that of others WITHOUT focusing on whether the she agrees or disagrees with the service, Bible, etc.  She enjoys both as she practices non-judgment in all things.  She derives maximal benefit from both practices, if you will.  (A lovely reference for this is the fourth paragraph, sentences five through eight.)

Finally, one of our participants shared that a few sentences in the last paragraph, six, read like a benediction.  There are “Atonement might be equated with total escape from the past and total lack of interest in the future.  Heaven is here.  There is nowhere else.  Heaven is now.  There is no other time.”  To get caught up in debating any subject including reincarnation, whether it exists or not, is ego, period.

Have a lovely week, everyone.

Join us when you can, we’d love to have you.

Love,

Gayle

Comparison is the Thin Edge of the Wedge

The ego is always aware of the threat to its existence, that threat being God, or more specifically, the mind’s decision to remember God and to choose Him. So if I go to God with what I’m feeling – my low self-worth, feeling unloved, unwanted, not accepted or appreciated, feeling sick or in pain, afraid of financial loss, or whatever – the ego is going to fight back. Even if we’re feeling a sense of depression or despair, the ego will try to retaliate and attack. We’ll find ourselves critical and condemning. We’ll compare ourselves to others, and remember that to the ego “different” and “separate” are the same. Comparison is the thin edge of the wedge that the ego uses to insinuate itself into our thinking and lead us to attack our brother with the machete of judgment, anger, and hatred. We’ll think thoughts like these: “Well, would you just look at what she’s wearing,” or “I’m better than her. I know about computers,” or “I’m a better parent. At least my kids don’t yell and scream in public.” It’s always: “I’m a better this or that. I’m superior.” Or we can feel righteously superior because we suffer more. Either way, we’re superior. That’s the ego’s line, its theme song. It is grandiosity and it keeps us away from knowing the truth of who we are.

Remember always that you cannot be anywhere except in the Mind of God.

Yet, in the midst of all this, we need to remember that the ego has no reality. It’s only our belief in it that makes it seem real to us. But Jesus is meeting us where we think we are. He continues: “The ego is immobilized in the presence of God’s grandeur, because His grandeur establishes your freedom. Even the faintest hint of your reality literally drives the ego from your mind, because you will give up all investment in it. Grandeur is totally without illusions, and because it is real it is compellingly convincing. Yet the conviction of reality will not remain with you unless you do not allow the ego to attack it. The ego will make every effort to recover and mobilize its energies against your release. It will tell you that you are insane, and argue that grandeur cannot be a real part of you because of the littleness in which it believes” (T-9.VIII.4:1-6).

We’ve all experienced this. The ego attacks our conviction of our reality by trying to convince us that we are arrogant to believe that we are the Son of God, always and forever loved by God. It whispers to us: “Just look at what you’ve done. You’ve separated from God. You’ve destroyed the Oneness of Heaven just so you could have your separate, individual existence. After that, how could God love you?” And the ego will use the Course. Oh yes, don’t doubt that for a moment. The ego will take the Course words and terminology and what we’ve learned and use them against us to make us feel guilty. Because the ego’s intent is to keep us away from God, it’s going to mount every offensive it can to make that happen. It will try to undermine with stories from our past. Maybe you grew up in a dysfunctional family. Maybe you were abused. Maybe you’ve had multiple marriages. Rev. Paul is my fourth husband. The ego likes to use that against me. How could I ever think I could be a Teacher of God? Look at all the mistakes I’ve made! How can I accept that God loves me? But I can. We all can because it’s the Truth. We are His beloved Son, forever at One with Him.

Jesus says: “Yet your grandeur is not delusional because you did not make it. You made grandiosity and are afraid of it because it is a form of attack, but your grandeur is of God, Who created it out of His Love” (T-9.VIII.4:7-8). So yes, we are eligible for the grandeur of God because God created us like Himself. “From your grandeur you can only bless, because your grandeur is your abundance. By blessing you hold it in your mind, protecting it from illusions and keeping yourself in the Mind of God” (T-9.VIII.5:1-2). Yes, I am loved by God. This is who I am. I was created in Love. I am in the Mind of God, and I can allow myself to bless others and see the truth in them. In fact, I bless others by seeing Truth in them. I can choose to overlook their littleness and their grandiosity. I can choose to see them as the equal Sons of God that they are, loved by God as I am.

“Remember always that you cannot be anywhere except in the Mind of God. When you forget this, you will despair and you will attack” (T-9.VIII.5:3-4). Bingo! Bazinga! That’s exactly what we do! We forget; then we attack. We may be Course students, but we still do this. Once we forget the truth about ourselves, we become frightened, we despair, we attack. We project our guilt and self-hatred onto others. We criticize and find fault. These are the little ways we express our separation from each other and from God. They represent the thought of self-hate, which is our guilt over what we believe we did when we destroyed Heaven.

The Peace of God are Lessons God Would Have Me Learn

I’m happy to share with you a post by one of our students, Ryan Westbrook-Vigue

A few weeks of ago I received a diagnosis of the world… it was stage two colon cancer, but a few of the following Workbook Lessons have not only reminded me of the Truth of who I Truly am and the ability to be able to sit in silence and hear the voice of The Holy Spirit.

Allow me to share my enlightenment and my most sincere prayer is that it too will be an aide to help you remember the Truth of who you are as well. The following is what The Holy Spirit has led me to remember from each Daily Workbook Lesson.

I am reminded in the Workbook for Students Lesson number 188 that the peace of God is always shining in me.  The peace of God can never be contained. In order to recognize the light within myself, it requires that I must give the light and the means of giving it are in his understanding. The peace of God is always shining in me and in all living things. If I allow myself to sit quietly and close my eyes I will always find that the light within me is sufficient for it alone withholds the power to give me the gift of True sight. Allowing myself to exclude the outer world, it will always allow my thoughts to fly to that beautiful place of peace within me. The thoughts will always allow me to think of Him and remember my True Home which leads me to my Source, Where God the Father and the Son are one. God’s peace is always shining within me. I remember that I am able to take my wandering thoughts and I can gently return my thoughts to where my thoughts are shared with God. “The peace of God is shining in me now. Let all things shine upon me in that peace, and let me bless my brothers and sisters with the light in me.”

As I sit during my prayer, centering, and meditation time, I journey past the false illusions of this world I will seek to quiet my mind, so that I may hear my Inner teacher and listen to that quiet still voice within me allowing me to hear how to get past all illusions, as I work to seek and reach the truth that has always been within. I do not have to choose the way the path of how to come to Him, but I always choose to let Him come to me, my choice of coming to Him always brings me to a place of rest.

I have learned from The Workbook for Students lesson 190 that the belief of the pain, as I am experiencing is a wrong perspective. When I experience pain in any form, be it from the my diagnosis or my own split mind, it is the proof of my self-deception; it is not a fact at all as I am experiencing it in the world, for I am not a body I am free for I am as God created me. Whenever this thought is not remembered all I need to do is quiet myself and allow my Inner-teacher to remind me that I am not of this world and it is not my true home. There is no form of pain that can linger within my mind if I allow myself to see it correctly. When I feel pain is solely due to my thoughts. There is nothing in my mind that can hurt or injure me in any way. Though the world may seem to cause me pain this is just another example of a false belief I may have of the world because the world has no power to make any cause and it cannot make effects. When I give the thought of any pain in any area of my mind it is simply the thought of evil taking form and causing havoc on my holy mind. When I come to truly believe the joy of God belongs to me, I cannot help but understand there is no pain. It is my choice to make to believe in illusions or the truth, pain or joy, or hell and Heaven. I am free to choose my thoughts and be free to choose joy instead of pain and I offer gratitude to our Teacher and allow these feelings to fill my heart.

From The Workbook from Students Lesson 193 is that these are all lessons that God would have me learn. It is His will that reflects them all which reflects His loving kindness to the Son he loves. Each lesson that God would have me learn has the same central thought. The words of the Holy Spirit speaks to me while I find myself in tribulations, regardless of its form either in pain or suffering. The Holy Spirit offers me these words to allow temptation to end, where guilt is abandoned is allowed to be revered no longer. I will learn to say these words when I believe the thought of death is real rather than the choice of life. I have learned to say these words and when I I have understood the power to choose the power to release my mind from the bondage of false-beliefs. All things are lessons that God would have me learn for he would not allow me to suffer. There may be times that I forget who I truly am and God returns my thought to the Truth and He would not allow me to forget the love He has for me and all the love it brings with it. Would I fail to learn these very simple lessons from the Father sets before me that all pain would disappear and God would be remembered by his Son. God would not allow any thorn or nail to hurt His holy Son in any way. All things are lessons that God would have me learn and He would not leave me with any unforgiving thought at all without correcting them. The lessons that God would have me learn; these lessons are to aid me in the road back to Him.

What I learned from The Workbook for Students lesson 194: Is that God holds my future in His hands, my past and my future. He holds my past, my future for they are all one to Him and so they should be one to me. I release the future and the past is gone. What is present is freed from all grief and misery. This will recall all my memory of Him.

What I have learned from The Workbook for Students lesson 199 is: The mind that serves the Holy Spirit is unlimited forever, in all ways and beyond the laws of time and space. This thought is essential for my progress in the Course and what I have learned I hold it very dear. I am to cherish this idea and practice it every day. The Holy Spirit makes his home of those who seek for freedom. In Him they have found what they have been searching for. I am to be free today and I am to carry this gift to all that still seek the Truth . I am God’s Son. Would I not return my mind to this simple thought that through immortality I will live forever and would I not return my mind to such a beautiful thought. Through this journey of the world that I am now traveling. If I practice the words that the Holy Spirit has given me to learn; God’s Son will weep no more, and Heaven offers thanks for the increase in joy my practice brings to me. As God’s love and the joy of my practice bring me to a place of peace and joy. God himself offers His words as he extends Himself and I am reminded each time to say His Love and happiness are extended to me.

“I am not a body, I am free. I hear the voice God has given me, and it is this my mind obeys.” ~ Workbook Lesson 199.

I will seek no further. You will not find the peace of God. There is nothing else for me to find except the peace of God, unless I seek misery and pain. I now choose to come Home, for I am a stranger in this world. I will always found my true happiness in my Father. I have not found my homes in any alien forms of this world and that it is not my real home even though I thought to make it meaningful. Peace is the bridge that everyone will cross, to leave this world behind. As we cross this bridge it leads us to a fresh perception and into Heaven and the way beyond. Let me not lose my way again. We go to Heaven and the path is made straight, for peace is the answer to conflicting goals to senseless journeys, frantic, vain pursuits, and meaningless endeavors. Now the journey across the bridge is sloping gently toward where freedom lies within the peace of God. Peace is mind today, for I have found a simple, happy way to leave this world of ambiguity. Peace is union if it be of God. I will seek no further; for now I am close to home and I draw nearer each time I speak this truth:

“There is no peace except the peace of God, And I am glad and thankful it is so.” ~ Workbook Lesson 200

August Theme: Truth is True

The truth is true. Nothing else matters, nothing else is real, and everything beside it is not there. T-14.II.3:3-4

This month’s theme for our patrons/donors study is “Truth is True.” A Course in Miracles tells us truth just is. This month we will learn how to have all of our decisions guided by truth. We can choose the truth or not and reap either way what we sow. How do we choose truth above all? This month, I’ll share thoughts from ACIM, some exercises and perhaps a guided meditation or two, and other ideas  I have found helpful over these many years in my own Miracles journey. You are not alone and we are on this journey together as One.

Our Lessons in Light Study Series can be found at www.lessonsinlight.org

Let’s take Lesson 138 – Heaven is the decision I must make, as an appetizer.

We are learning here that there is only one decision. It seems that surrounding us there are so many decisions to make. Just getting up in the morning and deciding what to eat or to wear and so on as our day unfolds shows us how many seeming choices that we possess. We have all of these choices but they are all choices outside of us. Some of which will make us happy and some not. Some we hope will bring us peace and some not. Always these choices stand outside of the truth of Who we are. There is only one thing we want, truth, and only one choice for it. And in truth, the idea of choice does not even exist. Truth just is. Everything else is illusory choices. We want the truth and only the truth and only the truth exists. This will be our focus for this month.

If you are not a patron or donor, please consider becoming one today. For as little as $5 a month you can receive each month’s Lessons in Light Study Lessons and more. Read more about how to do so and all the benefits (free classes, free books, spiritual direction sessions with Rev. Deb, podcast guest, and more) here.

There is also a private email group and Facebook group for you to interact with other patrons of MiraclesOne.

If you are already a donor or patron and would like to receive the Lessons in Light Study, email me at revdeb@miraclesone.org.

Thank you for supporting our all-volunteer ministry. We would like to keep as many resources free to ACIM students, but we also want to thank those who do support us.

Blessings,

Rev. Deb

Prayer of the Heart for 10/26/16

May I walk with the goal of Peace. May I remember that Heaven is the direction I take; Heaven is the decision I make. I keep my eyes focused before me and on my own path. I learn the lessons of forgiveness and peace by my own inner walk with Spirit.

Thoughts on Lesson 238

On my decision all salvation rests.

God trusts me completely. If He trusts me, shall I not trust Him? As Jesus says here, “we pause to think how much our Father loves us.” Recently, I did so with a mistake I made. It seemed a dumb mistake and I felt guilty about it. Yet, I could hear the a small thought whisper to me of God’s love for me and that the mistake did not matter. I need not feel guilty because in Heaven, it never occurred. I did make amends for the mistake and that is all I need to do in form. Within, I need to forgive myself.

Thoughts on Lesson 232

Be in my mind, my Father, through the day.

I think here of the “mind meld” from Star Trek, as Mr. Spock would do with others to join their minds. Let my mind be melded with Yours, God. In this, I know there can be no division between us.

I learned through practice to be diligent in my practice to put God first. By doing so, it became as natural as breathing. Are there times I forget? Of course there are. I would say that most of the time I do hold the sacred space for Him in my mind. When I do this, fear is never present. When I open my mind to Him, I open my mind to Heaven’s abundance.

Thoughts on Week 33, Text, Chapter 19, III. The Unreality of Sin

And yet you look with Heaven’s smile upon your lips, and Heaven’s blessing on your sight.

In the holy instant, I see all of my relationships (present and past) differently. I see them as an opportunity to heal instead of the wound I clasped onto before. The belief in sin has kept me separate from these relationships in my mind. Through God, I experience the truth of the oneness we share. It is all in my perception. Will I use opportunities in my life to heal or wound? In my practice, I embrace these opportunities because deep within, I do want to heal. It is imperative I do. Holding on to grudges or resentments, brings no solace. It does not mean I physically place myself in the proximity of these people, but I do so in my mind.  There is a difference between the form and the content. We are asked only to see one another as the Holy Spirit sees. If we are to do anything else here in the world, He will tell us.

Thoughts on Week 32, Chapter 18, VI. Beyond the Body

There is nothing outside of you. That is what you must ultimately learn, for it is the realization that the Kingdom of Heaven is restored to you.

A lot of emphasis is placed on the body in our lives. Just check out 30 minutes of a TV program, and commercials remind us of this. What we need to eat, what we need to wear, how we need to create better health and more, flickers on our screen. And yes, we have to exist on this level and do those daily tasks to take care of ourselves. I’m not suggesting otherwise.

But what about our mind? Do we take care of that as carefully as our body? The Course presents to us a program to do so with the Workbook for Students, and even in the pages of the Text and Manual. We come to know we will not find Heaven here in the world. As he tells us in this section, Heaven is an awareness of perfect Oneness. It is the realization there is nothing but this Oneness.

The body came about as the ego’s tool for separation. And it keeps separating, one body after another. We seem to join on the body level, right? We get together with family and friends and enjoy our time spent. Yet there is still a distance we feel. We join and then we go home to our house full of stuff, further insulation from one another. We have political parties, genders, faiths, and more to induce more separation. And, all body related.

The essence of our spirit is not this body we see before us. The body may seem as a barrier to others and to God, but God is ever present in our mind whether we acknowledge Him or not.

Let us remember what we learn in this section, “minds are joined; bodies are not.” I know I’ve felt it if even for a nanosecond and so have you. The phone rings and it’s someone you were thinking of just now. There are many ways it is demonstrated we are not alone and walled off from others as we so think. We join together at a prayer service or other gathering, body-wise but also mind-wise.

Our lesson is to keep moving beyond the body and into the mind we share with God. That is where real satisfaction comes.

Thoughts on Week 32, Chapter 18, III. Light in the Dream

The light is IN you.

How can I deny the light is in me? How can you?

As I read this, I see the walk of the “dead”. I am a zombie in this world, seemingly controlled by the ego. Zombies in all the TV shows and movies have no personality, just how to meet their one need, brains! I’m not a fan of the Walking Dead or any of those shows, but Rev. Paul is. And since he is, I have seen segments from time to time. Before I started to awaken from the dream, I walked around like a zombie too. I followed the herd, did what everyone else did, and ignorantly played along.

As I started to flutter my eyelids to the Light, a part of me held fear as to this path I would embark on for now most of my life. When I realized as Jesus speaks of in this passage, “If you knew Who walks beside you on the way you have chosen, fear would be impossible,” I knew I was not alone in this. And neither are you.

It’s not hard to walk this way of the Light, but it can seem challenging. Many times in my life did I face adversity and simply want to give up and go back to the way I was before. But you see, I could not go back and you will find neither can you. I/we have learned too much as we study this Course. We learn that the Light shines on us whether we believe it or not, whether we understand it or not, whether we study ACIM or not.

When the time came for me to fully embrace this Course, it came at a time when my life was completely topsy turvy. Not that it will happen to you. But it did happen to me. I questioned everything I had learned thus far. I questioned my sanity. I begged for an answer. The answer came in trusting I would be carried through it all,  no matter what the turmoil was. At that time back in 2000, it was finding out someone I trusted had molested two of my children. It was devastating and hurtful. As I said, I questioned my own mind. I had dedicated myself to God, and now this.

Yet, I was able to derive strength from this time as I navigated it with the Holy Spirit’s Assistance. There is no way I could have done it alone. It was painful, hurtful, tremendously overwhelming and I’m sure you could imagine all the thoughts and feelings, especially guilt that ran through my mind. But I survived because I was open to what it could teach me.

What is going on in your life right now offering you an opportunity to know God’s strength?

Not one light in Heaven but goes with you. Not one Ray that shines forever in the Mind of God but shines on you.Heaven is joined with you in your advance to Heaven. When such great lights have joined with you to give the little spark of your desire the power of God Himself, can you remain in darkness? You and your brother are coming home together, after a long and meaningless journey that you undertook apart, and that led nowhere. You have found your brother, and you will light each other’s way. And from this light will the Great Rays extend back into darkness and forward unto God, to shine away the past and so make room for His eternal Presence, in which everything is radiant in the light.
