Jesus tells us in A Course in Miracles that defense is fear. Each time we defend, we increase the fear. But what are we defending? The ego. Since we have the belief that we cannot trust God, we continue to plan and scheme to save the face of the ego. However, the good news is we have another way to choose: We can choose to trust. We can be open to change and open to receive inner wisdom. In this Walk of Trust series, Lesson 6, Rev. Deb shares that seeking for guidance outside of ourselves, or following our own plans, will never truly fulfill us or make us happy.
Jesus tells us in A Course in Miracles that we do not place our trust in Him but instead we place it in the ego. This is where the mistrust of God lies. If we can step back, realize we do not know the answer to any of our seeming problems, and simply be still in the quiet with Him, we will receive exactly what we need. In this Walk of Trust series, Lesson 5, Rev. Deb says the rewards of God are found when we place our trust in Him. Continue reading “The Rewards of God – Entitled to Miracles Unity Radio Show”
We, like you, are saddened by the events that occurred in Charlottesville and what is still occurring in our country at this time. Yet, we must remember not to choose anger as our path to realizing justice and equality for all. It is not the way Jesus intended for us to take. Love and peace are the only way. We must recall Jesus’ words, what we see is “an outward picture of an inward condition.” We cannot condemn others if we have a secret place within our minds where we too hold hatred and anger.
Jesus reaches out to us in a supplement to A Course in Miracles, The Song of Prayer and says, “Come unto Me, My children, once again, without such twisted thoughts upon your hearts.” This we must do. Stop now and do this. Peace can only be found within. It is not found without. We must become peaceful in our own minds before we can act in the world. Otherwise, we are acting from the ego and continuing its hateful tirade. We would be no different than those who are currently spreading their dark message.
Jesus continues, “You still are holy with the Holiness which fathered you in perfect sinlessness, and still surrounds you with the Arms of peace. Dream now of healing. Then arise and lay all dreaming down forever. You are he your Father loves, who never left his home, nor wandered in a savage world with feet that bleed, and with a heavy heart made hard against the love that is the truth in you. Give all your dreams to Christ and let Him be your Guide to healing, leading you in prayer beyond the sorry reaches of the world.”
In Lesson 189 – I feel the Love of God within me now, he states “If hatred finds a place within your heart, you will perceive a fearful world, held cruelly in death’s sharp-pointed, bony fingers. If you feel the Love of God within you, you will look out on a world of mercy and of love.”
It is time for you to choose. You can effect change but you must do it from a place of calm and peace within your heart and mind. What goal are you setting? What is your intention? What is it for? Remember this as you move forward. Right now in this climate of separation, we need the miracle workers and peacemakers to come to sanity. We cannot make decisions if we are not embracing the Peace of God. Do not do anything until you do as such. Otherwise, you fall prey to the ego and continue its destructive message all in the name of equality and justice. We can work for these from a calm place.
For now, stop posting to social media, stop shouting rallying calls, and start reflecting on what you can do internally first. Stop, be with Him Who can assist you in your thoughts of upset and hurt. Choose to let Him come to your mind. Pause. Let forgiveness, let the miracle, and let the healing begin in your own mind. Then, you can follow the guidance as to what you are to do in form here in the world, whether it be organizing a protest or assisting others in some meaningful way. Now it will have meaning as you will have come to a place of serenity while you do it.
Even Yoda warned us, “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”
Jesus does not wish us to suffer. He has bestowed upon us an alternative. Let us embrace the alternative. Be still, lay aside all thoughts. Open your mind to the Divine. Ask and receive.
Yesterday we recorded our bi-weekly podcast. I was going to release it on Friday but I thought it imperative that I released it immediately. When Rev. Gayle, Mari and I recorded, it was before the President’s press conference. All that we shared still holds true. Our topic was “Choosing Peace.” Peace is a choice we can make in every moment. We have to look at how much do I desire that peace. How much do you want peace in your life? In your world? Mean the words “I want the peace of God,” and move beyond the insignificant verbalizations. If you want peace, demonstrate by all of your actions as well as your words. Every action you take, including on social media, teaches what you want to learn. What is it you want to learn?
Do not follow the path of anger as it leads nowhere. The path of peace is there before you sparkling in the Light of God. Choose it and you choose for everyone.

Choosing Peace – Charlottesville – 8/15/17
In this episode, Rev. Deb, Rev. Gayle, and Mari refer to the events in Charlottesville and how we need to ask ‘When am I ready to choose peace?” We must teach, i.e. DEMONSTRATE peace so we can learn it. We need to move out of talking about peace, posting to social media about peace, ruminating about peace and into the active choosing within our minds with the Holy Spirit. We are so used to seeking peace out in the world. The ego wants us to resolve the problem in the world. Instead, let us refer to our Inner Teacher and He will guide us in what we must do next. Peace is the way, ALWAYS. How much do you desire peace? Do not merely say the words but mean that you do want the peace of God. Now, are you ready to choose peace?

Our next topic in our Enhancing Your ACIM Practice Series is the subject of A Course in Miracles being written in all masculine pronouns. This is an interesting topic, to say the least, in fact, in my early days of study, I was promptly offended by the lack of feminine language within its pages. At that time in the early 90s when I first bought our beloved book, I had been studying books such as The Feminine Face of God and A God Like Me. I had been interested in the goddess aspect, including a class I had been taking (wish I could remember what it was) I had written a several page essay on the subject of the feminine being evicted from the Early Church.
In those first few years of study, I was constantly exchanging in my mind each time I read a masculine pronoun, the feminine pronoun. After some time, this faded. Why did this fade? Why is it written in the masculine language at all?
If we look at the history of ACIM, we have to remember that it arrived yes, through a woman, but also through Shakespearean iambic pentameter. It came as traditional English literature which was in the masculine language. While it may upset you or someone you know, it left all differences aside. Perhaps it was a challenge that Jesus knew we would deal with in our modern age. It does give us something to forgive now, doesn’t it?
It only took I would say a year or two for me to release the constant exchange and accept it as it was written. What changed? I do not recall the time or place, it was merely a shift and a controversy I was no longer interested in biding my time. In the Clarification of Terms Introduction, it states: All terms are potentially controversial, and those who seek controversy will find it. Yet those who seek clarification will find it as well. They must, however, be willing to overlook controversy, recognizing that it is a defense against truth in the form of a delaying maneuver.
It was for me to release the controversy and conflict and get to the heart of the matter. You could say I was now becoming more focused on the content and not so much the form. I know over these many years I have met and interacted with students who also have been perplexed by this language. However, all things become an obstacle to our learning if we allow it to do so.
The Course is simple, yet our ego minds weave quite a tangle to keep us away from knowing the content of what Jesus says. Perhaps we have had issues with Christianity too. What does this Course teach us but forgiveness and remembering to love all on the level of the mind?
The question to ask ourselves if the language is a barrier for us is, “What is it a barrier to my learning what this Course sets forth?” How does it make you feel? Does it elicit anger within? All these appear to us stirring the pot bestowing upon us that golden opportunity to remember what is true. Does it keep us separate or joined?
Does it mean that as a woman I stop being a feminist in the world? Of course not. There is nothing anti-Course by working for equal rights. The Course is not about our behavior or what we do here in the world, it is with whom (ego or Holy Spirit) I am making these decisions.
I know for me it was a welcome block to be removed so I may see everyone as One. I have no problem now calling all (both male and female) my brother for now it is a word that has a symbolism far beyond this world’s definition. Words are but symbols as Jesus tells us in the Manual for Teachers. It’s our choice how we perceive them.
Additionally, starting July 6th, I’ll be offering a weekly session for 8 weeks on how we can continue to Enhance our ACIM Practice. Learn more here.
The memory of God comes to the quiet mind. It cannot come where there is conflict, for a mind at war against itself remembers not eternal gentleness. T.23.I.1:1,2
Lovely quote, right? But how often does it happen we have a quiet mind?
As you answer that question, and I know your answer already, let’s take a look this time in our series of what to do about that non-quiet or monkey mind of yours.
Let’s look at it this way. The ego lives to chatter. It wants to hear its own voice. You probably have interacted with someone like that in your life. This persistent chatter is actually resistance and I spoke of overcoming resistance in my last post. The chatter thus becomes not only an act of resistance but also distraction. The ego insists that what you are experiencing is real and keeps focus on thoughts of the past, anxiety about the future, what’s happening in the world, and anything about the body. This keeps the memory of God at arm’s length.
You see, we give the ego its power by listening to it. As one who has practiced mindfulness meditation (and various other meditation techniques) for years, the key is to not listen to it. You can observe what is being said without attaching to what is being said. Because of this, you remain at peace.
As we practice ACIM, and particularly the Workbook Lessons, remember to be gentle and loving with yourself. As I shared earlier in this series on the Workbook Lessons, there is no need for criticism with how you practice. Listen to your Inner Teacher and do not compare yourself to other students. If you join with other students, be there to join and not to compare and contrast and never to debate, analyze or argue the Course. It is best to have a dialogue that includes your personal experiences, just as we do here at MiraclesOne.
When faced with this “quiet mind” we can become fearful of the quiet. We can acknowledge our fear. I also wrote and spoke in a podcast recently how actually afraid we are of this stillness. We are told in the Rules for Decision not to fight ourselves if we find resistance or our dedication has waned. We can train our minds and that is what ACIM is all about, the mind-training, particularly of the Lessons.
God is there in our mind. We need to recall that goal as we practice. Yes, the ego will throw obstacles in the path. Yes, there will be times of resistance. And, yes, there will be times you will have a quiet mind. It is all in the practice.
Our next class starting on May 25th will address the quieting of the mind by use of the Workbook Lessons. The class is “Meditation and A Course in Miracles.” You have two options in this class. You can attend at the scheduled time or watch the class teaching video and access the other materials presented on your own time. I encourage you to join us in this class if you need more support in this area.

Peace and Quiet to You,
This week, let’s take a look at resistance in our ongoing series of “Enhancing our ACIM Practice.”
We must be aware of resistance in our practice of A Course in Miracles. It can occur in various forms. First of all, we are drawn to the Course. It found its way into our lives and here it is. We love the words and we are drawn to its beauty. Yet, practicing it is where the resistance comes in.
I speak of this from my own personal experience. I do not share with you anything that I have not dealt with myself. I came to the Course easily, however, I had many life-defining moments where I was ready to throw in the towel in more ways than one.
- I was subjected to abuse in various relationships including as a child with an abusive mother.
- I was raped.
- Two of my three children were molested by an ex-spouse.
- I lived near poverty at one point in my life with my two oldest children.
- I’ve dealt with health issues.
- I had self-esteem, self-love, self-confidence issues.
Even when I wanted to give up on life, on love, and on this Course, I persisted. You can too. Continue reading “Enhancing Your A Course in Miracles Practice: Overcoming Resistance”
For the next post in the blog series, “Enhancing Your ACIM Practice,” I share with you the next tidbit in how you can integrate ACIM into your life a little more easily.
You are always welcome to share your questions with me and I will answer your questions on the next ACIM with MiraclesOne podcast or here within the series.
Forgetting to Do the Workbook Lessons (or Remembering to Do the Workbook Lessons)
This is a frequent “complaint” of sorts. Honestly, we all forget to repeat a practice of the Lessons, or we skip a day by mistake or from an illness. This is normal. Even Teachers of ACIM have not remembered to complete every Continue reading “Enhancing Your A Course in Miracles Practice: Forgetting to Do Workbook Lessons”
We do not have to fall into the illusion that we are sinful, guilty, and surrounded by darkness. That is the ego’s fear trap. In truth, we are innocent and today we declare our freedom. Rev. Deb relates the thinness of fear’s veil as the Light of Purity and Love will always shine it away. In addition, she shares a loving-kindness practice to help you remember the innocence not only of yourself but that of others.

I love to learn. In fact, I am always looking for opportunities to learn something new. I suppose that’s why A Course in Miracles attracted me a couple of decades ago for this very reason. It gave me a chance to learn about myself continually.
If you grew up as I did in the Catholic Church or another Christian church then Lent had many connotations, mostly “sacrifice,” “crucifixion,” and “death.” Lent, if we recall, is the period between Ash Wednesday and Easter. Did you know Sundays are not considered part of the Lenten fast? And even more complicated is that the “40 days of Fasting” before Easter is not even 40 days. Sigh. Confusing, right?
Recently I came across information about “Lent” that I did not know. What I found was the origin of the word. “Lent” is short for “Lenten” which is “the forty days of fasting before Easter” in the Christian calendar. It also comes from Old English “lencten” which means “springtime, spring.” Then we have from West Germanic “langitinaz” or “long-days” or “lengthening of the day.” Also from Old Saxon, Old High German, Middle Dutch, Gothic and Old Church Slavonic, Lithuanian and Latin. Whew, I’ll spare you the details on those. This all leads us to a simple meaning: increasing daylight in spring.
“Increasing daylight in spring” I was mesmerized by those words in thinking about Lent and Easter and meditated on my meditation cushion and candlelight for some time. In my meditative experience, it was certainly the approach of light. Not light as we know it in the world, but the Light of God. The Light of our Divine Nature and Oneness. And, so much more than I cannot even begin to describe what I experienced! Hence, I decided to call this series “40 Days of Light.”
In A Course in Miracles, we are asked to think of sacrifice differently as is demonstrated in this quote: Kneel not before the altars to sacrifice, and seek not what you will surely lose. and Suffering and sacrifice are the gifts with which the ego would “bless” all unions. and again, Your confusion of sacrifice and love is so profound that you cannot conceive of love without sacrifice. And it is this that you must look upon; sacrifice is attack, not love.
The ego tells us its plan is through sacrifice. Sacrifice leads us away from God and into the darkness. Quite the difference than what we learned in our religion of origin where we were told the value of sacrifice so we can appease God. God loves us unconditionally, and there is no need for sacrifice to Him. I know many people, especially newer ACIM students feel confused at this time of year just before Easter with the old beliefs in Lent and the crucifixion rising to the surface of the mind. Those ask “What does ACIM speak of about Lent and Easter?”
And so I was guided by Spirit to welcome the reminder of the Light we are in these days of Lent or shall I say, these days of approaching Light, by creating this series starting on March 1st (Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent). These messages will be short daily reminders on the Light. On Lenten Sundays during our livestreaming session (and 2nd Sunday in-person session in Madison, Wisconsin) we will focus on releasing the idea of sacrifice and embracing the Light we are and as we near Easter, the readings from ACIM highlighting Holy Week and Easter. I will also be sharing similarly in the podcasts. The daily messages will be very short, an image with a reminder on it, repeated in text with a few sentences underneath. It shall be a natural touchstone for you to use throughout the day. If you go to your calendar and count more than 40 days, remember that with Lent, the Sundays are not counted. It’s 40 days plus a handful of Sundays.
If you would like to support our all-volunteer ministry and these messages by your love offering, we welcome you to do so. Our main MiraclesOne website is www.miraclesone.org and is the source of all of our ACIM Resources, classes and studies.

My gifts are gifts of Love and Love always heals. Love always blesses the perceiver and the receiver whether they realize it or not. The ego’s gifts always separate. Their means, their goal is to crucify your holiness. You give them the power to do this at an unconscious level. As you turn to the Holy Spirit for help with each of the temptations that the ego offers you in the world the Holy Spirit will help you to make the right choice to choose the correct path, the path of peace. Remembering to ask Him for help with everything, any decision Continue reading “Ask Him to Give You the Keys to Heaven”
