40 Days of Light – Day 39

There is no death. The Son of God is free.

Recall our reference lesson on this Good Friday today. Do not bow down to the idol of death, but raise your eyes to Eternal Life.

Our Father, bless our eyes today. We are Your messengers, and we would look upon the glorious reflection of Your Love which shines in everything. We live and move in You alone. We are not separate from Your eternal life. There is no death, for death is not Your Will. And we abide where You have placed us, in the life we share with You and with all living things, to be like You and part of You forever. We accept Your Thoughts as ours, and our will is one with Yours eternally. Amen.

Thoughts on Lesson 245

Your peace is with me, Father. I am safe.

We go in peace when we realize everything outside of us is just that, outside of us. It is our perception of what is occurring that upsets us. We spoke about just this in our last night of our Thursday summer study as we began with yesterday’s lesson, 244 – I am in danger nowhere in the world. A question arose about our actual experiences in the world, i.e. walking on a darkened street, cancer, accidents, etc. Yes, here in the world of form we will experience these, but it is our “point of view” from which we come that makes all the difference. With ACIM, it is always about what is in my mind. I can approach dire health issues with peace by aligning my mind with the Holy Spirit and asking His Assistance.

One of our students brought up the passage that is a type of prayer. This is found in the Text, Chapter 19, IV. The Obstacles to Peace, C. The Third Obstacle. We find this in paragraph 11 (p. 419):

When anything seems to you to be a source of fear, when any situation strikes you with terror and makes your body tremble and the cold sweat of fear comes over it, remember it is always for [one] reason; the ego has perceived it as a symbol of fear, a sign of sin and death.  Remember, then, that neither sign nor symbol should be confused with source, for they must stand for something other than themselves. Their meaning cannot lie in them, but must be sought in what they represent. And they may thus mean everything or nothing, according to the truth or falsity of the idea which they reflect. Confronted with such seeming uncertainty of meaning, judge it not. Remember the holy Presence of the One given to you to be the Source of judgment.  Give it to Him to judge for you, and say:

Take this from me and look upon it, judging it for me.
Let me not see it as a sign of sin and death, nor use it for destruction.
Teach me how not to make of it an obstacle to peace, but let You use it for me, to facilitate its coming.

Thoughts on Week 35, Text, Chapter 19, IV. The Obstacles to Peace, B. & C.

This is taken from a post I made in July 2014. Also included below are two podcast episodes on the Third and Fourth Obstacles to Peace:

As a reminder we are in Text, Chapter 19, Section IV. The Obstacles to Peace. First, we had “the desire to get rid of it” where we see that we are always looking for peace to be escaping us, thus we are always looking for some sort of conflict in our mind. Secondly, we explored “the belief the body is valuable for what it offers” and how we focus on the self we have made instead of what God created. We believe the self we made will get us what we want. It doesn’t. This week we took our focus to the Third Obstacle – The Attraction of Death. Here we are focused not only on the death of the body, but anything that is a symbol of death, which in and of itself is the symbol of fear. Anything that is not of love is death. Any limitation we sense within is death. We focus on death so that we may not live.

I’d like to mention what Thursday night’s group focused on which was the aspect of forgiveness. We spent quite some time sharing personal examples on forgiveness. Sometimes it seems that it is a process that we consciously choose. Other times students noticed that it just seems to happen and the miracle appears. We came to an agreement that with our consistent study of ACIM we have decided upon an intention of healing. We may not always recognize this yet somehow and somewhere we have made the decision, “There must be another way.”

With this discussion we hauled out the Rules for Decision in Chapter 30, focusing mainly on the point “we can decide we do not like what we feel.” What we feel, if it is not peaceful, is a death. We have placed a limit on ourselves or one of our brothers. We can hide all we care to but we have made a decision for death. We have the secret wish that we would just go away or they would just go away or the problem would just go away! Take it away! PLEASE!

It is because we feel as a victim. When we can remember that this fear and the form it appears in our lives is just a mere symbol of fear, we can choose to join with the Holy Spirit and learn how we can allow this transform from an obstacle to peace but an opportunity in facilitating the way of peace in our lives. Jesus tells us to use the following:

Remember the holy Presence of the One given to you to be the Source of judgment. Give it to Him to judge for you, and say:

Take this from me and look upon it, judging it for me.

Let me not see it as a sign of sin and death, nor use it for destruction.

Teach me how not to make of it an obstacle to peace, but let You use it for me, to facilitate its coming.

Isn’t it peace that you would rather have? Why look for an exit that will only lead you once again in the maze? The exit is in acknowledging and owning the symbol of fear before you. It’s just a symbol it cannot hurt you. We are only hurt by our own interpretations of the symbol itself.  It is always the interpretation that distresses us. We have spoke so much in the classes this month on my chapter “Just the Facts” in my book “I am Entitled to Miracles!” It gives us the power to face these dark and deathly symbols and realize life instead. I will be teaching a class next year on “Just the Facts” and I hope you will join me for it. Actually I hope you will join us much sooner for all the classes we offer.

The last aspect we spoke about last evening was “consistency.” This time of year students tend to take it more easily, not attend weekly sessions, forget to do their workbook lesson in the morning or meditation time, or pick up the latest novel instead of their Course book. Not that there is judgment on this. It is certainly okay to enjoy the sun and sand, go on vacation and give yourself a break. However, in my many years of working with ACIM students it has been observed that when the “forgetting” starts it can easily become a slippery slope. One missed lesson or session leads to two, then three or more. Then a startling experience is thrust in our face and we do not know where to turn.

The consistency of practice helps to alleviate any uncomfortability we may feel. It’s seems like practice slips away and then the turmoil just appears. Yet when we are practicing daily and joining with others who are mighty companions regularly, the forgiveness is easier. As was said in our group last night as we talked about how new AA members are encouraged to attend meetings every day for 90 days. It then becomes a habit, a part of your life and you are not as tempted to go down the path of pain as before.

Take an assessment right now. Have you been sliding down that slippery slope? If so, it’s time to re-engage. Your spirit is worth it. You are worth it. It may be the lazy days of summer, but don’t take it literally! It’s good to rest and have a respite, but there is a fine line. That fine line could push you off the edge. Practice, practice and more practice. Every thought that comes in, every person who gets in your face, and every situation that occurs is fodder for you to practice the principles of ACIM. As you know I always say that it is not about the insightful words in our dear blue book it is so much more than that. When we can use it in every situation, and I mean every situation, peace then flows freely. No more obstacles!

As one of my students came to this week: Slow down, observe, be willing to ask for Guidance and choose again. So stop where you are now and ask the same. Ask for the recommitment in your life to your spiritual path with A Course in Miracles. Take the time to commit to joining with your local group or one of ours. What is an hour or so a week in joining with others? It will pay for itself one thousand times fold. And, what about those 5 minutes in the morning and evening, once again, thousands of minds will be made glad when you become still.

Let nothing be an obstacle to your peace. Do not allow the thought of fear keep you from peace. It’s your choice.

Thoughts on Week 26, Ch. 14, XI. The Test of Truth

“Yet the essential thing is learning that you do not know.”

I know nothing. By keeping an open mind I will access the power of God. When I exercise control and the power of the ego I will remain in a maze of my own doing, bumping into walls finding false exits but never exiting.

The Atonement helps me to escape the past. It releases the guilt and shows me who I am in God’s Eyes. I must unlearn what I have learned from fear. Jesus, you tell me to “let it go” not only that but to “let it ALL go.” I have placed faith in darkness and it is this that has made me sad and caused me to misjudge myself.

By this poor judgment I only saw the blackness of my perceived sin. No way out, but there to lie on the cold slab of fear. It is a death of sorts, a death to knowing what God would have me know. I end it there because I do not believe I could have anything else.

Yet light is available to me. That’s why my Guide is here. He leads me out of the catacombs and into the Great Rays of Light. This light heals me and brings me to perfect peace. I cannot be my own guide to miracles. I need to remember this.

Do not be concerned about how you can learn a lesson so completely different from everything that you have taught yourself. How would you know? Your part is very simple. You need only recognize that everything you learned you do not want. Ask to be taught, and do not use your experiences to confirm what you have learned. When your peace is threatened or disturbed in any way, say to yourself:

I do not know what anything, including this, means. And so I do not know how to respond to it. And I will not use my own past learning as the light to guide me now.

By this I abandon the teacher of guilt and collaborate with the Teacher of Peace. Over and over I make these statements about every section I read. Jesus repeats it becaue it is simple and true. When will I accept it as such.

A Living Temple in a World of Light

The blood of hatred fades to let the grass grow green again, and let the flowers be all white and sparkling in the summer sun. What was a place of death has now become a living temple in a world of light. Because of Them. It is Their Presence which has lifted holiness again to take its ancient place upon an ancient throne. Because of Them have miracles sprung up as grass and flowers on the barren ground that hate had scorched and rendered desolate. What hate has wrought have They undone. And now you stand on ground so holy Heaven leans to join with it, and make it like itself. The shadow of an ancient hate has gone, and all the blight and withering have passed forever from the land where They have come.

~ A Course in Miracles, Chapter 26, IX. For They Have Come

Thoughts on Lesson 163

There is no death. The Son of God is free.

After what occurred in Orlando it can seem prove difficult to believe this statement in our lessons. Yet we can remember that fear and the ego is only looking for our defeat. Love surpasses all. Of course we express our grief and perhaps our outrage, but we return to our center within to find the peace we seek. It will never be found externally. As we are ready for the soothing of our pain, we enter God’s Presence, and we receive His Light of Peace. Stay there a little while and receive His gift. It is for you and for everyone. His Guidance will give you lead to your next steps in what ways you can be of assistance to the world. Trust in Him.

Amen.

Thoughts on Week 15, Text, Chapter 8, VIII. The Body as a Means or End

Chapter 8  VIII. The Body as a Means or End

“If you are sick, how can you object to the ego’s firm belief that you are not invulnerable?”

“Sickness is a way of demonstrating that you can be hurt.”

My belief in sickness keeps me in the illusory world. I feel vulnerable and thoughts of being maimed or harmed occur, even death. If I focus on the body, this chassis I walk around in and fear all the sickness around me then I will not be obviously listening to the Holy Spirit’s Voice.

Someone has a cold or flu, we take notice. A terminal illness, we take notice. We don’t want either the germ or death to darken our doorstep. We want to protect what is ours, this “sacred” temple that we adorn and worship dearly.

It is not the function that the Holy Spirit intends. Holy Spirit uses everything here for His purpose. My job is to recognize that. The ego will give me conflicting guidance and always to uphold itself in one way or another. Let my body be used for His healing and the healing of others and it will serve its only purpose.

Buy not into vulnerability. Be willing to listen to the Voice that speaks to you now.

You are open to hearing My message, so listen well. Allow the body to be the means by which the Sonship returns to Wholeness. You are doing your part. You know you are when the witnesses appear and share in your message. It is My message that you share. They are affirmed of Truth. They see reality. Be not ashamed of this. Be proud to be the Son of God. My message you deliver. Deliver it gladly and with Joy. You will hear me more as your willingness increases and multiplies. Health is your natural state with Me. There is no sickness in the realm of God. You dreamt of illness and death but now use the dream of forgiveness to wake you from your nightmares. Tell your brothers that they too dream. Demonstrate My Love in all you do. Listen and Be well.

Thoughts on Week 14, Chapter 8, VII. The Body as a Means of Communication

Chapter 8,  VII. The Body as a Means of Communication

I wrote this in April 2007.

I see the perfection in not journaling before my father’s passing, as it just happened that way. I know the ego has chastised me for being behind on my journaling of the Text but now with You Holy Spirit, perfection is only seen.

The body is not what matters here. The death of a body does not matter here. The body is a vehicle by which Love can be expressed. I see how I did this with Dad and he with me. Of course at the end it was the journey of our minds that made all the difference.

“Yet all loss comes only from your own misunderstanding.”

“Loss of any kind is impossible.”

I did not lose my father. I have perceived this because I perceived there was a body and an identity attached to it. Understanding that there is only union of spirit, only the wholeness lifts the sorrow from mymind. It shows me that there is no need to mourn something that never was lost because it was something that never was. The Essence is still there, has always been, and always will be.

“The opposite of joy is depression. When your learning promotes depression instead of joy, you cannot be listening to God’s joyous Teacher and learning His lessons.”

God wills only joy for me. He does not create sorrow, death and pain. He does not snatch my loved ones from me in cruelty. It is I that believed in death and not Everlasting Life. I had listened to the ego that sings the dirges and has me follow a dark procession. Holy Spirit’s Voice is lilting, lifting me out of the shadows and into the blue sky where joy awaits. It is beautiful in the joy with God. My father is there in the joy and I know he wishes that I not suffer any longer.

“Do not allow yourself to suffer from imagined results of what is not true.”

I have imagined death as an end to a body and neither exists. My belief in death is the root of all illusions. I made my beliefs in separation and I made the suffering and now I can choose again and co-create Love in its place. I have the freedom to do so and I choose this now.

Resting in God

From Rev. Deb’s weekly Unity Radio show

EntitledToMiracles-350x200Ever wonder why other people seem so peaceful? Do you say to yourself: I’ll have what they’re having? You, too, can feel rested, grounded, and at peace. All it takes is your willingness to stop and take the time. As it says in A Course in Miracles, “’I rest in God.’ Completely undismayed, this thought will carry you through storms and strife, past misery and pain, past loss and death, and onward to the certainty of God. There is no suffering it cannot heal. There is no problem that it cannot solve. And no appearance but will turn to truth before the eyes of you who rest in God.”

Thoughts on Week 5 – Text – Chapter 3, I. Atonement without Sacrifice

Chapter 3, Section I. Atonement without Sacrifice
If I would believe as Christian doctrine has taught that Jesus was crucified for my sins, then the story of Jesus would have stopped just there. But with the resurrection it showed that there was nothing to fear. Death is not real. This world and its laws are not real. God did not create a cruel, vicious world for God is only Love.

Jesus tells us simply here, “I was not ‘punished’ because you were bad.” He also states that “God does not believe in retribution.” His mind does not create that way. He does not hold your “evil” deeds against you. Even a child can understand this premise, that God is Love and nothing else. I know growing up in this the traditional viewpoint left me confused as to what is truth. It never made sense to me.

It is this world that I created that asks, rather demands for sacrifice and death. I experienced this many times myself. Dying to my own truth, sacrificing my own self so that others “may be free…” Is this truly loving? Is it true freedom for others? Guilt is exposes here on both ends. It is not the way to live and certainly not the way my Father intended for me.

Innocence brings strength and in the purity of heart all is preserved. True life is known and fear is undone. The curtain has parted and the light shines through.

Let me know my innocence in You, dear Father, that will exemplify for me my true state of mind. I sacrifice no longer. I die not again to my self, but live in my True Self forever more. Amen.
